Director of Education Sarah Wassberg Johnson discusses the impacts of historic freshets and flooding on Kingston, Albany, and other Hudson River towns with special emphasis on the flood of 1936 in Kingston. Tracking the efforts to control these floods through dams, dikes, and Army Corps of Engineers work, Wassberg Johnson includes numerous historical photos and personal stories, including from Rondout Lighthouse keeper Catherine Murdock.
Speaker Bio:
Sarah Wassberg Johnson has been Director of Education at the Hudson River Maritime Museum since 2012. She has an MA in Public History from the University at Albany and is the editor of Hudson River Lighthouses.
