Thomas Cole & The Hudson River School

$5/person | HRMM Members FREE

In the early nineteenth century, artists flocked to the Hudson River Valley to capture the majestic wilderness that laid before them. Thomas Cole, a founder of the Hudson River School, emigrated to Catskill where he created scenes of wild and untouched scenery with majestic mountains and tangled forests that stood in stark contrast to the gentle landscape images that had come before.

The first Museum Mates program in 2020 will offer children the opportunity to learn basic painting techniques and create their own piece of art. The program will include a guide-led tour of the Water/Ways exhibit. The Thomas Cole & Hudson River School program supports the Smithsonian Institute Traveling Exhibit, Water/Ways, hosted by the Hudson River Maritime Museum January 11, 2020 - February 23, 2020.
