Water has played a strategic role throughout the course of American History. George Washington oversaw the installation of a chain blockade that stretched across the Hudson River during the Revolutionary War, which prevented maritime travel north of West Point. New York State Presidents, including Martin Van Buren, Theodore Roosevelt, and Franklin D. Roosevelt, all impacted water policy in the country while in office. This family-friendly presentation will highlight how water has helped shape our history. This program supports the Smithsonian Institute Traveling Exhibit, Water/Ways.
