Riverport Women's Sailing Conference, Nov. 6 - 7, 2020

11/06/2020 05:00 PM - 11/07/2020 06:00 PM ET

Description

The fourth annual Riverport Women's Sailing Conference is going virtual and international!  Join us Friday November 6, from 5:00 to 6:30 pm and Saturday, November 7, from 1:00 to 6:00 pm, New York time.

Pour yourself a glass of wine or sparkling cider and get ready to be wowed by our Keynote speaker Dawn Riley, Executive Director of Oakcliff Sailing Center, America's Cup competitor, one of the original Maiden crew, and so much more at our virtual cocktail hour Friday at 5:00 pm (New York Time).

Then gather household members around the screen at 1:00 pm (New York Time) on Saturday, and be inspired by Tracy Edwards, Skipper of Maiden, the all-woman boat, a top competitor in the Whitbread Around the World race in 1989-1990, subject of the recent documentary Maiden, and members of the original and current crews. They will regale us with stories and keep us updated on their efforts to educate girls around the world through their current project The Maiden Factor.

The afternoon will continue until 6:00 pm with more amazing presentations: Community Outreach: Equity and Inclusion in the Sailing Community,  The History and Mission of the Sloop Clearwater, Safety Around Large Vessels, Maritime Careers, Blue Water Sailing, Basic Navigation, Communications at Sea, Sail Care and Repair, and Outboard Engine Troubleshooting.

Our supporters include: Oakcliff Sailing, The Maiden Factor, The Sloop Clearwater, The Impossible Dream, Raising Hope, The Kingston Sailing Club, The Sailing School at the Hudson River Maritime Museum, and the Hudson River Maritime Museum.

All expert presenters are women, and our focus is on encouraging and inspiring women sailors, but because we have room for more people in a virtual event, we welcome male participants to join women and teenage girls at the 2020 online conference.

The fee is $50 per household. We welcome individuals from low-income and underserved communities. To apply for a scholarship, please email jsterling@hrmm.org.

We will send registrants more information and a Zoom link before November 6.
