Foundations of Woodworking, Intro to Joinery: Make a Tool Box

06/01/2024 09:00 AM - 06/02/2024 05:00 PM ET

Description

The Wooden Boat School's Foundations of Woodworking series of classes provides practicing and aspiring woodworkers with the fundamental knowledge and best practices that are essential for the craft of woodworking. In this fourth class in the series, you will be introduced to joinery, building hand tool skills to practice cutting joints. After this two-day woodworking class, you will leave with a tool tote ready to be customized for your tool kit.

In this session you will build your own tool box with your choice of the joints you learn: dovetail, miter, box, and half-lap joints. Using joinery rather than fasteners provides strength and sturdiness to produce a long-lasting box. You'll then finish with your own details on the ends and the handle--which you can shape with a spokeshave and plane--and install the handle with a through-mortise joint. You will have the opportunity to cut the joints both by machine and by hand to give you a feel for both methods.
